Symptoms of Stress in Women: What to Watch For and How to Reset Your Nervous System Naturally

Written by Dr. Julia Marie, NMD

Stress is a silent force that affects millions of women daily. While it can be subtle at first, chronic stress takes a profound toll on the body, mind, and emotions. Unlike acute stress, which can be energizing in short bursts, chronic stress disrupts the nervous system, hormone balance, and overall wellness ~ often without immediate recognition.

Women are particularly susceptible due to the interplay between hormonal cycles, societal expectations, caregiving roles, and professional pressures. The result is that stress often goes unnoticed, unaddressed, or normalized.

Why Women’s Stress Often Goes Unaddressed

Many women normalize chronic stress, attributing it to “just part of life” or “being busy.” Societal expectations of multitasking, caretaking, and high performance can create a culture where women feel pressure to push through rather than pause and reset.

Additionally, stress often presents in subtle ways ~ low-grade fatigue, minor digestive upset, or intermittent anxiety ~ that are easy to overlook. Over time, these small signs compound, affecting overall health and well-being. women can experience real shifts ~ calmer moods, improved sleep, enhanced energy, and greater clarity.

Healing Stress at the Nervous System Level

True stress relief goes beyond surface-level solutions. At Optimyze, we focus on resetting the nervous system, helping women shift from chronic sympathetic dominance (fight-or-flight) to balanced parasympathetic activation (rest, digest, and restore).

Key strategies include:

  • Movement and Breathwork: Gentle yoga, mobility exercises, and Wim Hof or conscious breathing techniques help regulate the nervous system.

  • Red Light and PEMF Therapy: These therapies enhance cellular function, reduce inflammation, and promote nervous system balance.

  • Cold Plunge & Sauna: Contrast therapies stimulate circulation, reduce stress hormones, and improve resilience.

  • Personalized Detox & Nutrition: Using the supplements at the center, you can support your liver function, reduce inflammation, and optimize gut health all help the body adapt to stress.

By addressing stress at the nervous system level, women can experience real shifts ~ calmer moods, improved sleep, enhanced energy, and greater clarity.

Personal Reflection: Turn Stress into Freedom

Take a moment to reflect: where in your life are you feeling overstimulated, overwhelmed or stuck? All of these can be stressful in different ways. Which relationships, habits, or environments leave you feeling depleted rather than empowered?

For me, I’ve noticed that energy leaks often come from trying to meet expectations that don’t align with my authentic self. I had to pause and ask: Am I living for myself, or am I performing to fit a mold? The simple act of noticing where my energy goes allowed me to start reclaiming it, creating space for what truly sparks joy, creativity, and passion.

Consider reconnecting with something that lights you up ~ a hobby, a creative pursuit, or even a daily 5-minute ritual that reminds you of your vitality.

BONUS: Ask yourself “what ABOUT this is making me feel stressed”, this question can be applied to anything and leads to beautiful breakthroughs, try it!

Remember: you are the creator of your reality. Small, intentional steps can help you restore balance, reset your nervous system, and feel alive again.
